Is Google Meet free for Indian businesses?
Google Meet is included with every Google Workspace plan — Starter (₹270/user/month), Standard (₹1,080/user/month), Business Plus and Enterprise. It is not available as a standalone free business product. There is a free personal Meet via a Google account, but business features (recording, admin controls, Gemini AI) require a Workspace subscription. For businesses already paying for Google Workspace, Meet is part of what they are already paying for.
What is the maximum number of participants in Google Meet?
Google Workspace Starter supports up to 100 participants per meeting. Standard supports 150. Business Plus supports 500. Enterprise supports 1,000 participants. For broadcast-style events up to 100,000 viewers, Enterprise includes live streaming to YouTube.
Does Google Meet include AI meeting summaries?
Yes — on Google Workspace Standard and above, Gemini AI provides automatic meeting summaries, action item capture and live transcription at no additional charge. The 'Take notes for me' feature lets Gemini join as a note-taker and produce a structured meeting document saved to Drive. These features are not available on the Starter plan.
Do external participants need a Google account to join a Meet?
No. Anyone with a Meet link can join from a browser — no Google account, no app download required. This makes Meet the lowest-friction option for client meetings and partner calls. Guests on mobile can join via the Google Meet app, which is free to download.
Where are Google Meet recordings saved?
Recordings are saved automatically to the meeting host's Google Drive, in a folder called 'Meet Recordings'. A sharing link is emailed to all participants after the meeting. Recording is available on Standard, Business Plus and Enterprise plans — not on Starter.
Is Google Meet secure enough for sensitive business meetings?
Yes. Google Meet uses TLS encryption in transit and AES 256-bit encryption at rest. Google Workspace is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified. Business Plus and Enterprise plans include HIPAA compliance. For Indian BFSI and healthcare organisations, Meet on Business Plus or Enterprise meets the standard compliance requirements.
How is Google Meet different from Zoom?
Google Meet is included in your Google Workspace subscription — no extra cost if you are on Standard or above. Zoom is a separate subscription.
