Microsoft 365 Enterprise is the plan tier for large Indian organisations — typically 300 or more users, or businesses in regulated industries with compliance requirements that exceed what the Business plans provide. Enterprise plans (E3, E5 and F3 for frontline workers) are priced by quotation for volume deals but have published list prices through the CSP channel.
Most Indian businesses with fewer than 300 users and without formal regulatory compliance obligations will be on the Business plans (Basic, Standard, or Premium). Enterprise is a genuine step up in capability — and cost — that is appropriate for specific organisational sizes and requirements.
Microsoft 365 Enterprise Plans — Overview
| Plan | With Teams (per user/month) | Without Teams |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 E3 | ₹2,995 | ₹2,285 |
| Microsoft 365 E5 | ₹4,740 | ₹4,030 |
| Microsoft 365 F3 (Frontline) | ₹665 | ₹575 |
All prices are annual commitment, approximate INR through the CSP channel. Enterprise pricing includes volume discount opportunities for larger deployments — contact Cloudfy Systems for exact pricing on your user count.
Microsoft 365 E3 — The Foundation Enterprise Plan
E3 is the entry-level Enterprise plan and is the most common Enterprise deployment for large Indian businesses. It includes everything in Business Premium plus significant expansions in compliance, archiving and identity management.
What E3 Includes Beyond Business Premium
Unlimited Exchange Online Archive. Business Premium includes a 50 GB mailbox and a 50 GB online archive. E3 removes the archive limit entirely — Exchange Online archiving grows without bounds. For Indian businesses with long-running client relationships, financial records or compliance-mandated email retention, unlimited archiving eliminates the management overhead of archive limits.
Microsoft Purview — Advanced eDiscovery and Compliance. E3 includes a more advanced version of Purview than Business Premium:
- Advanced audit with longer log retention (1 year standard, extendable to 10 years)
- Communication compliance for monitoring policy violations in Teams and email
- Advanced eDiscovery with AI-assisted review, custodian management and hold notifications
- Insider risk management policies for detecting unusual data access or exfiltration
Azure AD Premium P1 (same as Business Premium) — conditional access, MFA, SSPR and SSO for 500+ SaaS apps.
Microsoft Intune (same as Business Premium) — MDM and MAM for all devices.
Microsoft Defender for Business. E3 includes Defender for Business (the same endpoint protection as Premium). Note: E3 does not include Defender for Endpoint P2 — that is an E5 feature.
No user limit. E3 has no maximum user count — suitable for organisations of any size.
Rights management and information protection. Azure Information Protection P1 is included, providing persistent document labelling and protection policies.
Microsoft 365 E5 — Advanced Security and Analytics
E5 is the most comprehensive Microsoft 365 plan and is appropriate for Indian enterprises with serious security operations, advanced compliance requirements or voice telephony needs.
What E5 Adds Over E3
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint P2. This is the full enterprise EDR platform — beyond the Defender for Business included in E3. Defender P2 adds:
- Advanced threat hunting with a 180-day data lake for security investigation
- Endpoint attack surface reduction rules
- Deception technology (decoy assets that alert when accessed)
- Full API access for SOC integration
- Integration with Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM/SOAR)
Defender for Identity. Monitors on-premises Active Directory (AD) for identity-based attacks — pass-the-hash, pass-the-ticket, golden ticket attacks. Essential for hybrid environments with on-premises AD still in use.
Defender for Office 365 Plan 2. Advanced threat protection for email and collaboration — including attack simulation training, automated investigation and response (AIR) for email threats, and safe links/safe attachments with real-time detonation.
Microsoft Purview — Advanced Compliance. E5 adds:
- Customer lockbox for Microsoft-assisted support operations
- Privacy management
- Regulatory compliance assessments for GDPR, SEBI, RBI, ISO 27001
- Information barriers (controls who can communicate with whom inside the organisation)
Microsoft Entra ID P2 (Azure AD P2). Adds Privileged Identity Management (PIM) — time-limited access for admins, approval workflows for privileged roles, and identity protection with risk-based conditional access.
Power BI Pro. Business analytics and dashboarding included for every user.
Microsoft Teams Phone Standard. Cloud telephony add-on included.
Microsoft Viva Insights. Workplace analytics and employee experience tools.
Microsoft 365 F3 — Frontline Workers
F3 is designed for Indian businesses with large frontline workforces — manufacturing floor workers, retail store staff, delivery personnel, hospitality staff, security teams and similar roles.
At ₹665/user/month (with Teams), F3 provides:
- Microsoft 365 web and mobile apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint on mobile/web)
- Exchange Online with 2 GB mailbox
- Microsoft Teams (meetings, shift management, walkie-talkie feature)
- SharePoint and Viva Connections (frontline employee portal)
- Microsoft Intune (device management)
- Yammer for company-wide communication
F3 is not designed for users who need desktop Office apps or large mailboxes. It is specifically designed for the cost-effective coverage of large frontline populations alongside a smaller group of office users on Business Standard or E3.
When to Choose Enterprise Over Business Plans
Number of Users
Microsoft 365 Business plans (Basic, Standard, Premium) support a maximum of 300 users per tenant. If your organisation exceeds 300 users or is growing toward this limit, E3 is the migration path.
Compliance Requirements
Indian businesses in specific sectors have compliance requirements that E3 or E5 address more completely than Business Premium:
- SEBI-regulated entities — communication archiving, surveillance and audit trails require advanced Purview capabilities in E3/E5
- RBI-regulated banks and NBFCs — data governance and incident management requirements align with E5's advanced security stack
- IT companies with enterprise clients — service level agreements and security audits may require Defender for Endpoint P2, available only in E5
- Pharmaceutical companies — GxP compliance requirements and email archiving for regulatory submissions align with E3/E5
Security Operations Maturity
If your organisation has a dedicated security operations team or is building one, E5 provides the tools they need: Defender P2, Sentinel integration, Defender for Identity and Defender for Office P2. These tools are not available in Business plans.

Cloudfy Systems and Enterprise Deployments
Enterprise deployments are complex — more so than Business plan deployments. Organisations moving to E3 or E5 typically have legacy infrastructure: on-premises Exchange servers, Active Directory, endpoint management platforms, or existing SIEM tools that need integration with Microsoft's security stack.
Cloudfy Systems handles Enterprise Microsoft 365 deployments end to end:
- Pre-deployment assessment of existing infrastructure, licensing position and compliance requirements
- Custom pricing quotation in INR with GST for your user count and mix of E3/E5/F3
- Migration planning for on-premises Exchange to Exchange Online
- Hybrid identity configuration (Active Directory Connect / Entra Connect)
- Defender for Endpoint P2 and Sentinel onboarding (E5)
- Conditional access policy design and implementation
- Ongoing managed support for admin operations, licence management and renewals
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum user count for Microsoft 365 Enterprise plans?
There is no minimum — you can deploy E3 or E5 for a small organisation. However, the per-user cost of E3 (₹2,995) and E5 (₹4,740) makes them most viable for organisations that genuinely need the additional capabilities, which typically means larger or regulated organisations.
Can I mix Business and Enterprise plans in the same tenant?
Yes. A common configuration is to put most users on Business Standard or Premium and a subset (IT team, compliance team) on E3 or E5. Cloudfy Systems can design a mixed-plan deployment that minimises cost while ensuring the right capabilities for each user group.
Does Microsoft 365 E3 include Copilot AI?
No — Microsoft 365 Copilot is a separate add-on (₹1,496/user/month) available on top of E3 or E5 subscriptions. It is not included in the base Enterprise plan price.
How long does an E3 or E5 deployment take?
A basic E3 deployment (email, Teams, OneDrive migration) takes 1 to 3 weeks. A full E5 deployment including Defender P2 onboarding, Sentinel integration, Purview compliance configuration and Defender for Identity requires 4 to 8 weeks depending on the complexity of existing infrastructure.
Is volume pricing available for Enterprise plans?
Yes — Microsoft's CSP programme includes volume tiers for Enterprise plans. Cloudfy Systems can provide volume pricing for deployments of 100+ users. Contact us for a custom quotation.
